ZENCO Case | Zhonggang Hotel, Luliang

Rooted on Binhe East Road, Zhongyang County, Lüliang, ZhongGang Hotel stands along the waterfront of the Nanchuan River. It features a clear and dignified architectural scheme with powerful, flowing lines. Its centrally‑symmetrical layout carries the steady‑rooted sense of order born from the industrial land. Graceful neo‑Chinese upturned eaves stretch elegantly overhead, while the solid mass of natural stone blends harmoniously with warm wood tones, laying a tender foundation for hospitality upon the building’s robust framework. Taking the cultural heritage of the local steel plant as its creative core, the design distills regional industrial imagery into the spatial texture. Instead of deliberately erasing the local industrial marks, it adopts spatial narrative to transform the long‑accumulated spirit of the steelworks into a tangible, livable sojourn atmosphere. ZENCO CASA furniture is seamlessly embedded into the spatial layout, striking a balance between industrial fortitude and poetic dwelling, and hiding considerate comfort within every corner. When guests settle comfortably on the lobby sofa and lift their eyes, they can catch sight of the steel‑plant silhouette across the Nanchuan River. Shimmering ripples soften the harsh edges of steel, and the hotel’s warmth is firmly supported by this vibrant industrial land. Rigor and gentleness co‑exist, forming a peaceful world of its own.

Inside the lobby, the lofty vaulted ceiling stretches open, with square loop‑shaped lamps hanging in staggered arrangement, resembling forged steel rings that subtly embody the beauty of industrial forms. A full‑length landscape mural unfolds along the wall, bringing the charm of Lüliang’s rolling mountains into the interior. Dark‑hued pillars stand tall like steel skeletons, and the polished dark‑grey stone floor mirrors surrounding silhouettes. Neat spatial composition carries the solemn poise of Chinese aesthetics. Resting seats are laid out in order, featuring dignified outlines and mellow textures that blend seamlessly with the overall ambiance. Beside them, a long screen plays shifting industrial light‑and‑shadow visuals, echoing the silhouette of the steelworks outside the window. Across the river, the sharp steel outlines turn into a view before one’s eyes. Toughness and tenderness are fully integrated within this hall.

Guest rooms are spread across each floor of the main building, with the spatial foundation laid by warm wood tones and plain soft furnishings. Orange‑hued cabinets echo the glow of furnace fire, injecting bright accents into the understated palette. Textured lines on the headboard backdrop derive from steel patterns in the mill workshops, re‑interpreted by design to shed sharpness and settle into mild restraint. Beside the floor‑to‑ceiling windows, the Nanchuan River forms a paired scene with the steelworks on the opposite bank: the stark silhouette of blast furnaces stands distinct by day, while at night plant lights spill over the river and break into rippling golden waves. Equipped with an intelligent control system, the space allows free adjustment of lighting, curtains and room temperature, and the bathroom features a wet‑dry partition with premium toiletries. Luxurious well‑fitted bedding offers comfort; lying in bed, guests see plant glimmers filter through sheer curtains, tinting the ceiling with soft warmth. ZENCO CASA furniture captures the spirit of the space through streamlined forms, stripping away redundant lines and harsh edges without competing against window views. Resting here, the stark tactility of industry is gently filtered away, leaving only lasting tranquility to slow one’s breath and bring sound sleep.

The restaurant boasts a spacious, refined layout. The open dining hall is structured by a wooden grille ceiling laced with winding geometric light strips, and glass lattice screens gently partition the seating zones, where marble dining tables pair with leather booths for a harmonious interplay of crisp and soft textures. Each private room in the Chinese restaurant carries an elegant name, fully embodying the local essence of Lüliang. Wall adornments are artistically reimagined from archival steelworks imagery—blast furnace glows and workshop silhouettes preserved as timeless visual pieces—accented by landscape scrolls and floral-and-avian motifs that weave quiet sophistication into the lively dining atmosphere. The cuisine takes Shanxi flavors as its foundation, infused with creative touches: chewy knife-cut noodles carry the unyielding character of the land, while mellow, rich Guo You Rou (stir-fried pork with sauce) stirs deep hometown sentiment. The all-day dining restaurant serves uncomplicated, fresh fare, with steaming morning noodle stations brimming with authentic local flavor. ZENCO CASA furniture is laid out in thoughtful alignment with the seating plan; tables and chairs feature poised silhouettes and warm textures, merging flawlessly with the elegant dining mood. Through the windows, the flickering lights of the steelworks across the river come into view, and with every bite, guests experience both the sturdy grit and soft warmth of this industrial city.

The hotel’s meeting and banquet spaces cater to diverse scenario‑based requirements, forming a complete venue matrix ranging from formal boardrooms and spacious multi‑function lecture halls to elegant banquet halls for seated dinners. The spatial design carries forward the overall industrial order of the building. Geometric ceiling lines and lighting arrays establish a clear spatial logic. Supported by professional audio‑visual equipment, the venue delivers even and transparent sound field together with soft, shadow‑free lighting to guarantee seamless conferences and events. Seating in each venue is configured to match its functional purpose, balancing enveloping comfort and long‑hour support. With understated textures, the furnishings stay discreet in the background, shifting the spatial focus to speeches, communication and gatherings themselves.

The hotel houses a constant‑temperature swimming pool and a professional gym, creating a relaxing leisure sanctuary. The spacious swimming pool is illuminated by soft natural light filtering through its skylight. Crystal‑clear water mirrors the clean‑cut contours of the space, while rest seats are scattered along the poolside. Gentle ripples wash away the weariness of travel. The gym features warm, refined wood‑clad walls and a full set of neatly‑arranged fitness equipment. Expansive glass panels bring views of the swimming pool indoors, allowing guests to gaze upon rippling blue water while working out. After a long journey, you may stretch your body in the pool or break a sweat on fitness machines. The hustle and bustle of the city fades away, offering you a slow‑paced, soothing sojourn amid the rugged industrial charm of this steel city.

The Nanchuan River flows day and night, embracing both the blazing glow of the steel‑plant furnaces and the countless shore‑side household lights within its shimmering ripples. The hotel has welcomed countless travelling guests. Its lobby holds traces of weary arrivals, its dining rooms are filled with cheerful conversations over drinks, and the floor‑to‑ceiling windows of guest rooms have captured countless serene late‑night silhouettes. Every piece of furniture and fixture bears witness to reunions and departures, wiping away traces of past visitors as it quietly awaits the beginning of brand‑new sojourn stories.

Every piece of furniture embodies the mellow heritage of ZENCO CASA, blending quietly into the everyday warmth of the hotel. The murmur of the Nanchuan River, accompanied by the distant echoes from the steel plant, drifts slowly through the years. Standing permanently by the riverbank, the space awaits travellers to lay down their fatigue, set aside the weariness of their journey amid riverside lights, and refresh themselves before setting off anew. The furnace fire burns on, the river flows endlessly, and guests come and go. This enduring watchful presence never wavers.
